If you liked Twilight and even if you didn't, you will definitely LOVE Shiver. Here is why:
The plot is about a girl named Grace who had been bitten by a werewolf when she was a child and ever since then she had always had a fascination with them, especially the yellow eyed wolf that appears every winter. She has no idea that the wolf is actually a werewolf who works at the local bookstore when in human form. The werewolves only turn into wolves when the temperature turns cold, hence the title Shiver. After so many years of changing the change eventually becomes permanent and the werewolves no longer turn back into humans. Sam had just finished his last year as a human and when a local boy is murdered by werewolves, the people in town go on a wolf hunt. he gets shot making him change into human form again. He and Grace race against the oncoming winter to find a way for him to stay human. with the help of unlikely friends they find a way that could possibly help him, but will it work. read to find out.
This story is like Twilight because like those books, a human falls in love with a mythical creature; Bella with a vampire and Grace with a werewolf. There is also a meadow scene in each of the stories which in my opinion is very parallel with the twilight books since the meadow is where the two lovers can escape from the real world and just be themselves. The differences however make Shiver better than that series. The main difference being that Grace actually has a brain. She can think on her feet and save the people she cares about whereas Bella needs the Cullens to always come to her rescue. Also, there is an actual story in this novel, not just the over-repeated theme of 'I love you but I'm not good for you however I'm going to stay with you anyway.' Sam also doesn't try to hide what he is by posing as a student at the local high school. He embraces the werewolf that he is until Grace using the brain that she has, finds the solution to him becoming human again. They're love might not last forever like the Cullens because they are both human but at least they're lives are interesting, as is the book.
If you don't believe that shiver is so much better than Twilight, then you must read the book yourself. a cunningly fantastical/romantic race against time.
